The committee heard testimony on the performance of the Office of Thrift Supervision in regulating the nation’s savings and loans. Earlier in the week, President Bush extended a moratorium on federal regulations, which affected the activities of the Office of Thrift Supervision. The committee sought to determine how the OTS had been affected by the moratorium as well as the current state of the nation’s savings and loan industry. close
