President George H. W. Bush, accompanied by the mayor of Los Angeles, Sen. John Seymour, and Secretary of Health and Human Services Louis Sullivan, addressed a gathering at the Challengers Boys and Girls Club in Los Angeles, California. In his address, President Bush spoke of the tragic nature of the rioting but noted the powerful spirit of the people of Los Angeles to persevere through adverse times.
