During the first panel of the hearing, the Joint Economic Committee heard testimony from William Barron, the acting commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, who testified on unemployment statistics for the month of April, 1992. The committee holds similar hearings on unemployment statistics on the first Friday of every month. Mr. Barron said the employment statistics showed job growth during the month of April, and noted an upturn in several areas of the economy in terms of unemployment. close
