George Washington University and Centrel Corporation sponsored a forum on the institutional and political issues currently facing Congress, held at George Washington University in Washington, DC. Current and former legislators discussed the roadblocks preventing efficient government in Washington, including partisanship and divided government. The legislators involved in the forum had all either retired from Congress or were planning to retire at the end of their current term. They discussed their reasons for retiring from Congress, and discussed the barriers preventing Congress from solving the country’s problems including public opinion, special interest groups, and the media. The panelists responded to questions from the audience following their prepared remarks. close
