The American Indian Resources Institute sponsored a forum on “Governmental Power in Indian Country,” as part of its conference entitled, “Indian Culture and Tribal Sovereignty in the 21st Century,” in Washington, DC. Senator Daniel Inouye (D-HI), chairman of the House Select Indian Affairs Committee, addressed the conference on the relationship between the U.S. government, his committee’s work, and Indian reservations. Following his remarks, representatives to the conference discussed legislation affecting Native Americans in the future. close
