Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun addressed a dinner of the American Jewish Committee during their meeting in Washington, DC. After being awarded the committee’s American Liberties medallion, Justice Blackmun discussed human and civil rights in American society and around the world. Following Justice Blackmun’s remarks, former Assistant Secretary of State Richard Shifter was awarded the committee’s Public Service Award for his work toward human rights. He briefly discussed his work in the United Nations and other U.S. foreign policy matters. close
