The House Select on Children, Youth, and Families Committee heard testimony on the impact of alcohol labeling and marketing on American Indians. Witnesses at the hearing included the U.S. Surgeon General and representatives of American Indian tribes. The issues raised in the hearing included the speech rights of commercial alcohol producers and the regulation of alcohol products. The hearing came about due to the controversy raised by the marketing of an alcoholic product with the brand name “Crazy Horse.” Although the brewery making the product did not break any laws, the committee sought to learn whether the laws concerning such products should be changed. close
