Repatriation of Refugee Women and Children

The Women’s Commission on Refugee Women & Children sponsored a forum titled, “Going Home: The Prospect of Repatriation for Refugee Women and Children.” Several speakers, including representatives of the United Nations High Commission for refugees, spoke on the problems meeting refugee women and children upon their repatriation to their home country. Many of the speakers referred to the Bush administration’s announcement earlier in the month that Haitian refugees fleeing the military coup in that country would be turned away from the nation’s borders and returned to Haiti. The program included a brief videotape on the problems meeting women and children refugees. Following their prepared remarks, the panelists responded to questions from the audience. close
