The subcommittee heard testimony on the relationship between the U.S. economy and the 1992 European Economic Community which is scheduled to become a common market by 1993. The subcommittee sought to hear how the U.S. may manipulate its markets, economy and commerce to remain competitive with the European common market and the global economy. Members sought more of a proactive policy from the administration in dealing with an integrated Europe economy. close
