The representatives of several U.S. environmental groups held a news conference in Rio de Janeiro during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, better known as the Earth Summit. The environmental group spokespeople discussed the continuing negotiations at the summit, and expressed their displeasure at the failure of the United States to add its backing to the great number of countries signing a convention concerning the protection of biodiversity. close
