President Bush spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Korean War Veterans Memorial on the Mall in Washington, DC. Following introductory speeches from Gen. Paul Kelly, Chairman, American Battle Monuments Commission, and the ambassador from Korea, President George H. W. Bush spoke from an outdoor platform to laud the accomplishments of the veterans of the Korean War and compared the Korean War with the Persian Gulf War. Following his remarks, the president turned several shovelfuls of dirt to the strains of “God Bless America” played by the military band which, also played several selections preceding the ceremony. close
