The Bretton Woods Committee sponsored a forum of economists, economic analysts, members of Congress and diplomats on the future of the economies of the independent republics of the Commonwealth of Independent States, formerly the Soviet Union. The forum occurred the day before the president of the Commonwealth of Independent States was to arrive in Washington to meet with President Bush. The Bretton Woods Committee is made up of approximately 400 members who study the activities of global economic organizations including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The theme of their 1992 meeting is the republics of the former Soviet Union. close
