Members of the House of Representatives debated an amendment to H.R. 5373, legislation providing appropriations for Department of Energy water and energy research programs. The amendment would cut off funding for a spuer conducting super collider being built in Texas for research in nuclear physics, a program estimated to cost approximately eight to ten billion dollars. Supporters of the super collider argued for its role in providing jobs in Texas and maintaining American superiority in scientific research and competitiveness. close
