Chief Justice Rehnquist described a little history of the U.S. Supreme Court in his book, Grand Inquests: The Historic Impeachments of Justice Samuel Chase and President Andrew Johnson, published by William Morrow and Company. The book details the impeachment hearings of Justice Samuel Chase of the United States Supreme Court in 1805 and of President Andrew Johnson in 1868. Justice Rehnquist said the both of these trials in the first half of the nineteenth century helped define the separation of powers of the United States government. close
