Pro-Life Issues

Robert Casey, Governor D- Pennsylvania, spoke to the Boston “pro-life” organization Women Affirming Life about “Equal Justice for the Unborn: The Pennsylvania Experience.” The speech was Governor Casey’s first major address since the Supreme Court handed down its decision in the case Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which concerned the legality of a Pennsylvania law restricting abortion. The Supreme Court decision upheld some of the Pennsylvania law’s restrictions, but also upheld the right of a woman to have an abortion. Governor Casey called for the defense of the powerless, and advocated an emancipation proclamation for the unborn child. He also spoke of the growing political power of the “pro-life” movement, and urged the defeat of the Freedom of Choice Act. Following his prepared remarks, Governor Casey responded to questions from the audience. close
