Sen. Tom Harkin, a former Democratic presidential candidate in the 1992 race, discussed economic opportunities for Americans in a speech to the 1992 Democratic National Convention in New York, NY. He recalled his mother’s impoverished beginnings in America, and noted the opportunities a Democratic government provided her in making a better life for her children. Sen. Harkin went on to predict a number of headlines that would follow a Clinton-Gore victory in the 1992 election, and called for a defeat of the Bush administration. Following his remarks, Sen. Harkin was joined on stage by his wife and daughter to acknowledge the cheers of the crowd. close
