President H.W. Bush spoke on the South Lawn of the White House after stepping off the helicopter upon his return to Washington. The President met with national security advisers over the weekend at Camp David. He announced “encouraging progress” in the nation’s drug war, and criticized Saddam Hussein’s government in Iraq for hassling U.N. inspectors attempting to search a building in Iraq. Iraq, earlier that afternoon, announced its intention to allow the U.N. team to search the building, but the president criticized actions and conduct of the Iraqi government. close
