House Banking Finance and Urban Affairs Committee held a hearing on the "State of the Thrift Depositor Program". The committee heard testimony in a semi-annual hearing on the security of customers' deposits in the nation’s thrift institutions. Fed. Chair Alan Greenspan and FDIC William Taylor, and Housing Secretary Jack Kemp testified on the financial stability of the Resolution Trust Corporation, which was created to liquidate the assets of failed savings and loan institutions, and the financial status of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. close
