Calvin Mackenzie talked about his book The Liberal Hour: Washington and the Politics of Change in the 1960s (Penguin Press; July 10, 2008). The co-author was Robert Weisbrot. Professor Mackenzie recalled a brief time in the 1960s when a liberal agenda progressed in Washington. He contended this window of time took place following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and during the early tenure of President Lyndon Johnson. Professor Mackenzie responded to questions from members of the audience.

Calvin Mackenzie, a government professor at Colby College, is the author or editor of over a dozen books on American government, including The Irony of Reform: Roots of American Political Disenchantment. close
