Senator John McCain spoke by satellite video link from St. Louis, MO. He talked about his choice of Gov. Palin and Hurricane Gustav. Following Sen. McCain, Republican Party officials briefed reporters on the decision to conduct an abbreviated opening of the Republican National Convention. They said that the speaking portions would be suspended and the convention would only conduct necessary business such as adoption of the party platform and adoption of the reports by the rules and credentials committees. close
