Federal, state and local officials spoke by telephone from Wilmington, North Carolina, about the final steps of the digital television transition pilot program in Wilmington. At noon on Monday, September 8, 2008, Wilmington’s five commercial broadcast television stations become the first in the country to switch from analog to all-digital signals. After that date, full-power commercial TV stations will only broadcast in digital. Wilmington serves as a test for the national DTV transition on February 17, 2009.
