Former Clinton speechwriter Michael Waldman talked about A Return to Common Sense (Sourcebooks, Inc.; (June 1, 2008). The book details his seven recommendations for improving American democracy: 1. make voter registration universal, 2. fix electronic voting, 3. increase voter turnout, 4. implement campaign finance reform, 5. end partisan gerrymandering, 6. end the electoral college, 7. fix Congress and the presidency. In his remarks Mr. Waldman also talked about his work at the Brennan Center and responded to questions from the audience.
