Witnesses testified about the current Iraqi budget surplus, Iraqi political governance, and levels of U.S. financial assistance to Iraq. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported that the Iraqi budget surplus might reach $79 billion by year’s end, while the United States spends $10 billion a month in Iraq. They spoke about plans for the transition of security to Iraqi forces, the tentative nature of Iraqi political decisions, and status of reconstruction efforts in the country. close
