Ken Vogel spoke about an announcement by the Obama campaign that it had raised $150 million in the month of September, and raised about $605 million overall. According to the campaign, about 632,000 new donors contributed in September, out of a total of 3.1 million donors. Sen. John McCain, who decided to accept public financing of his general election campaign, has been limited by law to spending only $84.1 million of taxpayer matching money in the general election. Mr. Vogel talked about the political implications of the announcement and the system of public financing of presidential campaigns. He responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
