In a series on major state ballot initiatives in the 2008 election, guests focused on measures dealing with same sex marriage. Proposition 8 in California amends the state’s constitution to specify that only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized. The ballot measure would nullify a California Supreme Court decision and two legislative measures passed by the California State Legislature that extended marriage rights to same-sex couples. There were also gay rights measures on the ballot in Arizona, Arkansas and Florida. Mr. Schubert and Ms. Kendell also responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. close
