After receiving congratulatory telephone calls from Senator John McCain and President Bush for his win in the presidential election, President-Elect Barack Obama spoke to supporters and others gathered in Grant Park in Chicago. In his victory speech he thanked his family and campaign organization and said that he would govern by representing all Americans, and would call on all citizens to join in a struggle to renew America’s position as an example to the world. close
