Army Colonel (Retired) Peter Mansoor talked about his book, Baghdad at Sunrise: A Brigade Commander’s War in Iraq (Yale Library of Military History: Yale University Press; September 16, 2008). He also talked about the strategy of the military surge in Iraq. He emphasized that of greater importance than merely the increased number of troops was the resulting ability to position U.S. forces with Iraqi forces in neighborhoods to protect the people. Following his remarks he responded to audience members' questions.

Peter Mansoor currently holds the General Raymond Mason Chair of Military History at Ohio State University. Colonel Mansoor was the commander of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, in Baghdad in 2003-2004. He was part of the Council of Colonels that advised the Joint Chiefs of Staff to reassess the strategy in Iraq.
