Rosayln Terborg-Penn, Sharon Harley, and Crystal Feimster talked about the book to which they contributed, Telling Histories: Black Women Historians in the Ivory Tower (The University of North Carolina Press; March 25, 2008). They discussed their career paths as black women historians and recounted their travails in creating a field of study that incorporates African American history and women’s history. They responded to questions from the audience. Deborah Gray White, the editor of the book, presided.

“Black Women in the Academy: Achievements and Challenges” was an event sponsored by the Committee on Women in the SHA as part of the Southern Historical Association’s 74th Annual Meeting in New Orleans. close
