Greg Morcroft, appearing by remote access from New York City, talked about past and future federal rescue plans of the economy, and he responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. On Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson announced a new direction for federal assistance in the financial sector. The rescue package funds approved by Congress will no longer be used to buy mortgage-backed securities and remove them from the balance sheets of troubled lenders. close
