Vernon Jordan spoke about his book Make it Plain: Standing Up and Speaking Out (PublicAffairs; November 3, 2008). His book is about the history of the oral tradition of storytelling, preaching, and speechmaking that black Americans have used to assert their rights and preserve and pass on their history and culture. He talked about incidents in the struggle for civil rights and the election of Barack Obama for president. Topics included his own life and career and his relationship with former President and Senator Clinton. He responded to questions from members of the audience. close
