A bipartisan group of newly-elected members of Congress participated in a roundtable discussion on the economic crisis and what Congress can and should do. The speakers included economists and Elizabeth Warren, head of a congressional panel set up to monitor the federal bailout. Topics included lower savings rates, relaxed regulatory standards, assistance for state and local governments, the unemployment insurance system, and excessive leveraging by financial institutions. Panelists responded to questions following their presentations.
