Thomas Sugrue talked about Sweet Land of Liberty: The Forgotten Struggle for Civil Rights in the North (Random House; November 4, 2008). In the book he ecounts the civil rights movement in the North from the 1920s to the present. Although much is documented about civil rights in the South the author presents research that exposes similar issues and struggles that existed in the Northern United States and recalls the people and events the fueled the civil rights movement throughout the region. Following his remarks he responded to audience questions.
