Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street
Michael Davis was a senior editor and family television columnist for TV Guide from 1998 to 2007. A Neiman Fellow, he has also worked for The Baltimore Sun and Chicago Sun-Times.
Michael Davis talked about and read from his book Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street (Viking; December 26, 2008). The book tells the story of the creation and the history of Sesame Street, a program that revolutionized the way education was presented to children on television since its first episode aired on November 10, 1969. He recounts that this popular culture landmark was inspired by the civil rights movement and survived political attempts to cut off its funding. Mr. Davis responded to questions from the audience after his remarks.
