A panel discussed the book Blind Spot: When Journalists Don’t Get Religion, published by the Oxford University Press. The book argues that mainstream media often misses or misconstrues major stories about world affairs, public policy and culture because its members don’t know the nuances of different religions and the impact of those nuances on daily life. The book is a survey of the relationship between religion, society, and politics. The book concludes that the media is largely secular with little interest or ability in understanding religious quarrels, and in will therefore consistently misrepresent political issues.
