Gholam Reza Afkhami talked about The Life and Times of the Shah, 1919-1980 (Publisher: University of California Press; February 2009). In the book Mr. Afkhami examines the Shah’s rule in the context of the Cold War era and Iran’s geopolitical position. He portrays the Shah as an ordinary man who came to power not by seeking it but by birth. Commentary was provided by John Limbert of the U.S. Naval Academy and Shaul Bakhash of George Mason University.

Gholam Reza Afkhami is a senior scholar at the Foundation for Iranian Studies (Maryland). Prior to the 1979 revolution, he was a political science professor at the National University of Iran and also served as Deputy Minister of Interior. close
