Michael Stanton and Steve Cochran talked about the two presidential memorandums on emissions standards for automobiles signed by President Obama, and they responded to telephone calls and electronic mail. The first memorandum asks the EPA to reconsider the Bush administration’s denial of a waiver to California and other states to seek tougher auto emissions standards than the current federal level. The second presidential memorandum directs Transportation Secretary LaHood by March to finalize 2011 fuel efficiency standards for cars to make recommendations for beyond that year, an action expected to lead to stricter fuel efficiency standards. Part of President Obama’s statement made the previous day on these standards was shown. close
