Norman Bussel talked about his book, My Private War: Liberated Body, Captive Mind - A World War II POW’s Journey (Pegasus Books; November 30, 2008). The author was twenty years old when the B-17 bomber he was flying in was shot down by the German army outside of Berlin in 1944. He would spend the next year as a prisoner of war. Mr. Bussel returned to the United States and suffered from severe emotional problems, once called shell shock, he turned to self-medication through alcohol. Norman Bussel recounts his years struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and encourages a new generation of veterans to seek out assistance upon returning from war. Following his remarks he responded to audience members' questions.
