Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke delivered his semiannual “Monetary Policy Report to the Congress” as required by the Humphrey-Hawkins Full Employment and Balanced Growth Act. He testified about current economic conditions, and the outlook for the financial sector and the broader economy. In his remarks he indicated that while the U.S. government may take “substantial” stakes in some banks, it doesn’t plan to nationalize financial institutions, which would eliminate shareholder stakes in the banks.

The first part of the hearing included members' statements and Mr. Bernanke’s opening testimony. close
