British Prime Minister Gordon Brown addressed a joint meeting of Congress. He spoke about challenges posed by the global financial crisis. He also urged U.S. lawmakers to resist protectionism, adopt policies to fight climate change, and take advantage of the goodwill toward the U.S. by world powers following the election of President Barack Obama. Near the beginning of his remarks he also announced that Queen Elizabeth II had bestowed a knighthood on Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA). close
