Canadian officials spoke to reporters about government aid to the automobile industry in Canada. They said they had not received realistic restructuring plans from General Motors Canada and Chrysler Canada, but would provide $4 billion in interim loans and extend a March 31 deadline keeping each company from potential bankruptcy. They also said Chrysler was being given 30 days to negotiate a deal with Italian automaker Fiat SpA.
