Juan Cole argues in Engaging the Muslim World (Palgrave Macmillan; March 17, 2009) that Western attitudes towards Muslim countries have been significantly shaped by fearmongering and misinformation. During this talk, Professor Cole addressed some of the misconceptions he feels people have about the Muslim world and suggested ways for President Obama to engage with countries like Iran and Pakistan.
