Peggy Brooks-Bertram and Barbara Nevergold talked about the book they edited, Go, Tell Michelle: African-American Women Write to the New First Lady (State University of New York Press, January 15, 2009). They are co-founders of the Uncrowned Queens Institute for Research and Education on Women, Inc. at the University of Buffalo, State University of New York. They talked about their work wth community leaders as well as their efforts to get African-American women to write letters to first lady Michelle Obama. Topics included the negative portrayal of Mrs. Obama in the media. After the presentation, individuals who contributed to Go Tell Michelle briefly spoke about the stories that they contributed. Then they responded to questions from members of the audience. close
