Frances Dinkelspiel is the author of Towers of Gold: How One Jewish Immigrant Named Isaias Hellman Created California (St. Martin’s Press; November 11, 2008). Isaias Wolf Hellman (1842-1920) was one of California’s pioneer financiers. As well as being an award-winning journalist, Frances Dinkelspiel is the great-great granddaughter of Isaias Hellman. Chip Jacobs is the co-author of Smogtown: The Lung-Burning History of Pollution in Los Angeles (Overlook; October 2, 2008). D.J. Waldie is the author of Holy Land: A Suburban Memoir (W W Norton; June 1996). He talked about the book California Romantica: Spanish Colonial and Mission-Style Houses (Rizzoli; November 6, 2007), for which he wrote the text.
