Authors talked about their books on Los Angeles, California. Topics included the significance of their subjects and why they were chosen. They also responded to questions from members of the audience. Bill Deverell moderated.

Frances Dinkelspiel is the author of Towers of Gold: How One Jewish Immigrant Named Isaias Hellman Created California (St. Martin’s Press; November 11, 2008). Isaias Wolf Hellman (1842-1920) was one of California’s pioneer financiers. As well as being an award-winning journalist, Frances Dinkelspiel is the great-great granddaughter of Isaias Hellman. Chip Jacobs is the co-author of Smogtown: The Lung-Burning History of Pollution in Los Angeles (Overlook; October 2, 2008). D.J. Waldie is the author of Holy Land: A Suburban Memoir (W W Norton; June 1996). He talked about the book California Romantica: Spanish Colonial and Mission-Style Houses (Rizzoli; November 6, 2007), for which he wrote the text.
