President Obama addressed graduates at the University of Notre Dame, encouraging students to look forward in challenging times and shape a better world, as “one human family.” He called on students and Americans to find common cause in divisive issues and also acknowledged the controversy over abortion urging both sides in the debate to pursue a “fair-minded” discussion. He also spoke about the proper role and purpose of faith in American life.

He was introduced by University President John Jenkins who addressed the controversy over the differences between the president’s and the Catholic Church’s convictions on the issue, encouraging students, the university and the public to come together in civil dialogue. close
