Eric Burns talked about his book All the News Unfit to Print: How Things Were...and How They Were Reported (Wiley; April 20, 2009). In his book he recounts the many types of mistakes, hoaxes, omissions, and lies in the history of journalism. Mr. Burns profiles the authors and their motivations that range from Samuel Clemens' (Mark Twain’s) bogus discovery of a 100-year-old “Petrified Man” and Benjamin Franklin’s fabricated report of “The Trial of Miss Polly Baker” to modern times.
