Representative Dennis Kucinich spoke by phone on how Congress should respond to General Motor’s (GM) bankruptcy filing, and the impact of the 14 GM plant closings. A GM powertrain plant with 37 jobs will close in Parma, OH, in Rep. Kucinich’s district. Rep. Kucinich says the economic impact of the economic problems of the auto industry is far wider in his district than the closing of the Parma plant. He also has offered a House resolution (HR 444) that calls for creation of industrial policy and that declares the auto industry, aerospace, steel, and shipping industries are essential to national security. close
