Deanne Stillman talked about her book Mustang: The Saga of the Wild Horse in the American West (Mariner Books; June 1, 2009). The event at the Autry National Center of the American West opened with a video of wild horses. Ms. Stillman told how she was inspired to write her award-winning book by the 1998 killings of dozens of Mustangs near Reno, Nevada. She gave a comprehensive look at the history of the American Mustang starting with the Conquistadors to the continuing fight to preserve them in the wild. She also read passages from the book and showed a photograph of one of the horses she talked about. After her presentation she also spoke with members of the audience.

Deanne Stillman, author of Twentynine Palms: A True Story of Murder, Marines and the Mojave, has written for the New York Times, The Village Voice and on-line publications Salon and Slate. close
