Panelists talked about the political, economic, and foreign policy implications of Iran’s recent presidential elections. Topics included the ability of the opposition to survive a severe clampdown amidst the arrest and imprisonment of its leaders, activists, and demonstrators; the chances for either a renewed round of protests or a compromise between the government and the opposition; and the possibility of engagement or a further hardening of hostile government positions towards Europe and the United States. Following their discussion, panelists answered questions from audience members. close
