The Senate Judiciary Committee held its second day of hearings on the appointment of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court seat vacated by the retirement of Justice David Souter. Senator Leahy focused on her experience as a trial lawyer and appellate court judge, as well as several cases decided on the U.S. Court of Appeals including Ricci v. DeStefano. She also provided some context and explanation of a previous speech in which she said she hoped a wise Latina woman would make better decisions than a white male, saying that the speech was designed to inspire Latino law students.

Part 1 contains questioning of Judge Sotomayor by Senator Leahy only. Further questioning continues on subsequent parts. close
