Andrew Chaikin talked about his book Voices from the Moon: Apollo Astronauts Describe Their Lunar Experiences (Viking Studio; May 14, 2009). He talked about the Apollo 11 moon landing, which took place on July 20, 1969, and placed it in historical and scientific perspective on the 40th anniversary. He also talked about current scientific moon missions. Mr. Chaikin described how the Apollo moon missions were history’s greatest technological achievements and a turning point in the evolution of the human species. Citing the significance of the first lunar landing, he discussed its impact on our culture, and how it changed our view of ourselves and our planet. Mr. Chaikin also showed photos of the Apollo 11 mission and took questions from members of the audience.
